Medtem, ko so lahko atleti brez dvoma navdušeni nad učinki resveratrola, kot je zvišanje ravni testosterona in znižanje estrogena po naravni poti, so se ljudje, ki bi radi izboljšali kvaliteto svojega življenja, lotili uporabe resveratrola iz povsem drugih razlogov.

Obsežna literatura, ki opisuje resveratrol, navaja različne pozitivne učinke. Resveratrol blagodejno vpliva na srčno žilni sistem, zavira procese staranja, učinkuje proti raku, proti artritisu in ima druge pozitivne učinke na živčni sistem (npr. potencialne koristi pri zdravljenju Alzheimerjeve bolezni). Mnogi zgoraj našteti učinki izhajajo iz antioksidativnega in protivnetnega delovanja resveratrola, kot tudi genske modulacije.(13-21) Posamezniki, ki bi radi izboljšali kvaliteto svojega življenja, so najbolj navdušeni nad tem, da resveratrol dejansko lahko podaljša življenjsko dobo. Se spomnite primerov stradanja, ko so ljudje verjeli, da lahko znatno podaljšajo življenjsko dobo, če bi dnevno zaužili zelo majhno količino kalorij? Specifičen mehanizem v telesu, s katerim lahko z odvzemom kalorij živimo dlje obstaja, ta mehanizem aktivira beljakovino, imenovano SIRT1 (sirtuin 1). Aktiviranje teh beljakovin zavira PPAR-gama (hormonski receptor ali kemični sporočevalec) aktivnost, kar povzroči, da telo kuri nakopičeno telesno maščobo. Ni si težko predstavljati, da bi z manj maščobe lahko živeli dlje, vendar je presenetljivo, da resveratrol aktivira prav to SIRT1 beljakovino. Torej, tudi če si na tej točki ne razbijate glave s tem, kako podaljšati svoje življenje, lahko resveratrol kuri telesno maščobo namesto vas. Mogoče ste že slišali za t.i. francoski paradoks? To je prava uganka medicine, kjer imajo nekatere populacije (Francozi in Grki) presenetljivo nizek odstotek obolevnosti za srčno-žilnimi boleznimi, kljub temu, da jedo hrano z visoko vsebnostjo nasičenih maščob. Epidemiologi so dokazali, da razlog tiči v kulturi pitja rdečega vina. Mnogi raziskovalci so šli še korak dlje in ugotovili, da je resveratrol v vinu tisti, ki je odgovoren za t.i. francoski paradoks.(22-25) Za to skoraj čudežno snov je bilo dokazano, da ima tudi proti-glivične in proti-virusne lastnosti in lahko celo zaščiti jetra zaradi pretiranega uživanja alkohola ali oksidativnih poškodb zaradi prevelikih odmerkov Paracetamola (to je pogost pojav v ZDA).(26-39) Obstaja precej podatkov, ki dokazujejo, da je resveratrol sestavina, ki veliko obeta na področju preprečevanja in zdravljenja raka prostate!(40-48)

Pozitivne lastnosti Resveratola:

  • Deluje ravno nasprotno kot estrogen in zavira aromatizacijo. 
  • Povečuje testosteron brez da bi se ob tem zmanjšala produkcija le tega v testisih 
  • Krepi zdravje srca in ožilja 
  • Anti-kancerogeno delovanje - zavira nastanek rakavih celic, še posebej maligne spremembe prostate
  • Zavira staranje 
  • Spodbuja izgubo maščobe 
  • Deluje protivnetno 
  • Antioksidativno delovanje (deluje kot antioksidant)
  • Zavira nastanek artritisa
  • Proti-glivični in proti-virusni učinki 
  • Ščiti jetra
